B.Tech. Student and Graduates receive Iron Ring
March 30, 2012
The Ritual of a Calling of an Engineer (commonly known as the “Iron Ring Ceremony”) held today at McMaster University will include two alumni of the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) Manufacturing Engineering Technology program, along with one current Civil Engineering Infrastructure Technology student.
All three iron ring recipients have completed the academic requirements required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario to be considered for their Professional Engineer license.
Compton, who will be graduating from the Civil Engineering Infrastructure Engineering program this year, came to us with previous international engineering credentials. This allowed him begin his PEO application early, earning him a Limited Engineering Licence while he completes the B.Tech. program.
Mark and Dave, both Ontario Advanced Diploma graduates, began their application to the PEO after graduating from B.Tech. in 2007 and 2006 respectively. According to Mark, the ability to learn new concepts that was developed by the B.Tech. program was critical to his preparation for the PEO challenge exams, allowing him to pass each one on the first try through self study. Mark explains that, while the challenge exams were difficult, they were on par with the academic rigour of the B.Tech. program overall.
Mark and Dave are currently employed in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering industries and both strongly agree that their B.Tech. education has been instrumental in both their career development and technical capabilities at work. They credit the quality of instructors, small class sizes, and flexible course schedule as being key factors to their success in the program.
Mark West (B.Tech. Manufacturing Engineering Technology '07), Compton Bobb (B.Tech. Civil Engineering Infrastructure Technology '12 - expected), and Dave Nash (B.Tech. Manufacturing Engineering '06) with Executive Director, Alan Murray (left to right).
